Vibration Characteristics of Shear Thickening Fluid-Based Sandwich Structures

The vibration attenuation mechanism of shear thickening fluid- (STF-) filled sandwich structures was investigated in this study. Structural equivalent damping, stiffness, and mass increased simultaneously with the increase volume fraction fluid. However, damping ratio decreased natural frequency structural mass. Thus, not a monotonically increasing function STF. A modified strain model layer developed based on following conditions: (1) under condition small strain, fluid regarded as linear viscoelastic material, (2) warpage beam considered during deformation influence STF beam. According to layer, occurred at 1 Hz 20 vibration. Therefore, resonance point structure shifted left. predictions were excellent agreement experimental results. results demonstrated that improved performance structure, while ability higher, better.
